Category Call

Think of an answer that fits both the category and the letter. Everyone writes at once, so there is no arguing over who shouted first.

3–8 players10–15 minutesEasy

1What you need

Your letter deck, paper and pens, and a 30-second timer.

2Set it up

Shuffle the deck. Use these categories in order, then repeat once for 10 rounds: animals, food or drink, places, things in a home, and jobs.

3How to play

  1. Reveal one letter card and read the round’s category aloud. Start a 30-second timer.
  2. Everyone secretly writes one answer in that category beginning with the revealed letter. Answers may contain more than one word; the first word must start with that letter.
  3. When time is up, reveal answers. Each valid answer scores 1 point, even if another player wrote the same answer.

4Scoring & winning

After 10 rounds, the most points wins. Ties are shared. If the deck runs out, reshuffle revealed cards. If nobody finds an answer, score zero and move to the next round.

5The finer points

Proper nouns are allowed for places. Do not add an article or adjective just to match the letter: “a banana” does not count for A. The group votes on disputed category fits, with a tied vote counting as valid. Blank or unfinished answers score zero.
